PETE KOSTELNICK

2017 Pufferbilly Days™ Grand Marshal

The Pufferbilly Days Steering Committee is happy to announce Pete Kostelnick as Grand Marshall for the 2017 Pufferbilly Days Parade.

Pete is currently a financial analyst in Lincoln, Nebraska but was born and raised in Boone. Growing up Pete participated in baseball, track and cross country. He continued his interest in running through college recreationally. After college he found an interest in ultrarunning which is any race longer than a marathon or 26.2 miles. He started with a 100 mile trail run through the Missouri Ozarks in 2012 where he took 18th overall. From there he continued to grow his reputation as an elite ultrarunner. In 2015 and 2016 he won the Badwater 135 race which is known as one of the most grueling courses in the world as it goes through California’s Death Valley. In September of 2016, Pete set out to attempt to break the record for the United States coast-to-coast run that was set in 1980. He started at the San Francisco City Hall and ended at the New York City City Hall. Pete broke the record for the fastest run across America by more than four days. He completed the run in 42 days, 6 hours, and 30 minutes and averaged 72 miles a day to break the record. Way to go, Pete!

The 2017 Pufferbilly Days™ Parade will start at 9:30am on Saturday morning, September 9th, at its usual Hancock Drive location.  It will make its way north on Story Street into downtown Boone, before heading west on 8th Street. Pufferbilly Days™ runs from September 7th through the 10th.  For more information about events and registration, go to www.pufferbillydays.com.
